The theme of WYD 2011 inspires youth to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. To that end, the Archdiocese of Detroit and Ignite Young Adult Ministry have been working on preparations for pilgrimage options for World Youth Day in 2011. The next international WYD will be held In August of 2011 in Madrid, Spain.
Madrid, Spain Options:
Hotel Accommodations through Corporate Travel Service (One free trip for each six paid participants-excluding WYD registration fee)
Dormitory Accommodations - through Corporate Travel Service (One free trip for each six paid participants-excluding WYD registration fee)
Simple Accommodations through Corporate Travel Service (Cost will cover flights, WYD registration and transfers to assigned locations)
Madrid, Spain Pre-trip Options:
Paris and Lourdes or Rome or Days in the Diocese (possible locations in Barcelona or Lisbon, Portugal or Madrid area)
World Youth Day Pilgrimage in Michigan or Ohio
Plans are in process for another regional gathering much like in Sidney, OH in 2008.
Cost Savings Options For this World Youth Day, we are excited that our travel company, Corporate Travel, is offering some new ways to help keep costs down! First of all, there are early booking discounts! Every pilgrim who registers by October 1, 2009 for packages A, B, or C will receive $100 off the total cost of the package. If any of these pilgrims registers for one of the pre-WYD trips (packages E or F), an additional $100 comes off the cost of that package. For example, if we decided that for WYD 2011, we’ll be going with package A (hotel accommodations) and a pre-trip extension to Rome, package E, every pilgrim registering by October 1, 2009 would take $200 off the total cost.
A second cost saving measure involves a pilgrim paying for a package with cash or check, not by a debit or credit card. Any pilgrim who makes all their payments with cash or check will receive additional money off the package when making the final payment. The amount varies from $23 up to $60 off depending on your chosen package.
A third way to bring down overall costs involves free packages. Within our group, for every six pilgrims who register for our chosen travel package, our group is awarded a FREE seventh package. This can bring down the total cost of each group member by splitting the total amount of the free package amongst all our registered pilgrims. For example, let’s say a we register a group of 7 pilgrims for package A (hotel accommodations.) One free package of approximately $3244 has been earned. Split amongst all 7 registered pilgrims, $463.00 ($3244 divided by 7) could be deducted from each of their trips. If we go on a pre-trip, those additional costs would be covered for the free trip. The only exclusion is the WYD fee.
